It is my job as a mother to explain what is taking place in the world. I know you are in my womb at the moment, but if you can feel what I feel then you are sad, worried, stressed, and overcome with joy at the way the community is coming together.
On May 20, 2013 (Monday) a F5 tornado ran through our town. Our home is safe as are your family members. However, that can not be said about everyone we know. Many lost their homes in the tornado and some lost their lives.
That morning we knew there was a chance of storms. Your dad had a motorcycle class and headed to work, I went to work as well. At 2pm there was a tornado watch announced. I called your dad and told him to go home immediately.
Within 1.5 hours Moore was devastated and I had not heard from your dad. I was panicked. The worst fears of mine seemed to come to mind.
What if we lost your dad and my husband? What would we do? How would we cope? Thankfully he messaged he got home safely.
We took off at 4 that afternoon to head home. We saw the destruction, the pain, and the loss of so many... we also sat in the car for 5 hours. Both of us hungry, and momma having to potty. But, we eventually made it home. Yes, we still had our home. We are so thankful for that simple statement.
I know there will be many years of you growing up hearing stories of the May 20th tornado... May 3rd was my story (I will tell you that one later.)
Baby J - you are truly blessed to come into a community where everyone looks out for everyone, where we find the light in the dark, where the state comes together as one. You will see what it means to be an Oklahoman. I love you little one.
